Phillies Prospect Dylan Cozens Reportedly in Dominican Winter League Fight

Dylan Cozens came out swinging and laid out some big hits in the Dominican Winter League, but they were not the kind the Phillies wanted to see.

Apparently, the Reading Fightin’ Phils outfielder took his team’s nickname too literally

Phillies power-hitting prospect Dylan Cozens was reportedly in a fight while playing in the Dominican Winter League. Local reports from the Dominican Republic say the Phillies #6 prospect Dylan Cozens and teammate Boog Powell (Mariners) were involved in a scuffle.

Cozens recently set the Reading single-season record with 40 home runs, and was named Eastern League MVP.

Here’s a loose translation of the tweet:

"I got the information from Santiago, Boog Powell and Dylan Cozens fought earlier. I confirm with other sources."

A second-round draft pick out of high school, Cozens is no stranger to brush-ups. Then-Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. acknowledged “a couple tussles” involving Cozens, who was ultimately kicked-off his high school team.

Through 13 games in winter ball Cozens is hitting extremely well against left-handed pitching. In 19 at-bats against lefties he has a .316 batting average and all three of his home runs. Against righties though, Cozens has been held to a .138 average with only one extra-base hit.

Similarly to his season with Reading, Cozens home runs are coming in his “home” ballpark.

Cozens is one of many key Philadelphia prospects currently playing in a winter league: C Jorge Alfaro, C Andrew Knapp, 1B Rhys Hoskins, RHP Ricardo Pinto, LHP Elniery Garcia, SS Malquin Canelo, OF Carlos Tocci, RHP Alberto Tirado, and RHP Alec Asher.
