Phillies Alumni Well Represented in NLDS Showdown

The Phillies current roster is now bare of any members from the 2008 World Series team, but the Nationals/Dodgers NLDS game Tuesday brought back great memories

Former Phillies are scattered across Major League Baseball, but they all seemed to have come together for a reunion Tuesday night during an NLDS game in Los Angeles.

Four members of the 2008 World Series team left their mark in the Nationals 8-3 win over the Dodgers. Jayson Werth, Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz, and Joe Blanton were all on hand and had a major impact on the final score, hitting a combined 5-6 with two home runs.

Werth hit a solo home run in the ninth inning against Kenley Jansen, while also adding a game-tying RBI double early in the game. The bearded legend finished 3-4, just a triple short of the cycle, with two RBIs.

Los Angeles brought Carlos Ruiz and Chase Utley up to pinch-hit, and neither failed to disappoint. Chooch launched a two-run home run in the fifth inning, and Chase had a pinch-hit single late in the Dodgers loss.

Joe Blanton had a very impressive night for Los Angeles. While he did not hit a home run, he did strike out the side in the eighth inning. Big Joe pitched 1.2 innings of relief allowing just one hit and three strikeouts.

Washington leads the series two games to one, and has the opportunity to advance to the NLCS tonight in Los Angeles. The Dodgers can force a pivotal game five to send the series back to Washington.
