On Tuesday preliminary rosters for the 2014 Arizona Fall League were announced and Phillies prospect Roman Quinn, along with five other Philadelphia prospects, were named to the Scottsdale Scorpions.
The Scorpions consist of prospects from four other MLB organizations: the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants. They will be managed by Jeff Bannister and their first game is October 7th.
As Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News reports, the Phillies may not be done adding to the Scorpions roster.
For now, Quinn joins four pitchers and a catcher from the Phillies organization on the initial Arizona Fall League roster.
Just 21-years-old, Quinn is hitting .252 for Class-A Clearwater in 2014. The switch-hitting outfielder has 79 hits in 83 games with ten doubles, three triples and six home runs. He also has 30 stolen bases, but has been caught ten times also. Drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft, Quinn is currently ranked as Phillies number five top prospect.
Murray has split time with Clearwater and Double-A Reading in 2014. Currently with Reading the pitcher has a 1-5 record and has been used as both a starter and reliever. The Kansas product owns a 2.30 ERA with 57 strikeouts in 33 games with the Fightin’ Phils.
The right-handed O’Sullivan is 5-8 for Double-A Reading in 2014. O’Sullivan is listed as 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. Ten of the 35 games he’s appeared in for Reading have been starts. He was previously drafted by both the Dodgers and the Giants.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Ogando is currently a member of the Reading Fightin’ Phils. Although he owns a 6.62 ERA, the righty has a high strikeout rate with 53 in as many innings. His record is 5-1 with six saves. Ogando was signed by the Boston Red Sox in 201o.
Ethan Stewart may not have the best numbers, but he is among the biggest players. The southpaw stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 235 pounds. For the Clearwater Threshers he has a 5-7 record with a 4.88 ERA this season. In 26 games his 65 strikeouts are nearly matched with 58 walks.
The Scranton, Pennsylvania native will see plenty of his teammates this fall. Moore was previously with the Clearwater Threshers, but currently catches for the Reading Fightin’ Phils. Of his 37 hits with Reading, 15 are for extra bases. He has 15 RBIs and is hitting .268 with runners in scoring position.
