Mickey Moniak will turn heads in spring training.

Philadelphia’s 1st overall pick in 2016 is showing out this year in Clearwater.

Mickey Moniak is currently slashing .308/.500/.538 in 13 at-bats with two K’s and five walks. It is great to see him walking more than striking out because that was a concern of his in the minor leagues.

If Moniak can pan out to be a major league outfielder for this team that would be huge for the Phils. He still has the potential to be our starting center fielder one day down the line. Even though he was drafted in 2016, Moniak is still only 21 years of age and has more room to grow as a player.

"“I didn’t take a break after the fall league, I kept hitting. I usually take about a month or two off, but I felt like it wasn’t necessary. Instead of having that couple-week span where you have to find your swing again, I kind of just wanted to get in the cage right away."

It is evident that Moniak is ready to take the next step and get ready to play in the MLB as fast as he can. He is dedicated to his craft more than ever, this being his second year in Clearwater he has to be feeling more comfortable and ready to go and it is showing in his at-bats.

Moniak could get a shot at AAA baseball in the 2020 season, but it is very unlikely he touches the Citizens Bank Park grass this year. But for Mickey, after this season, it will most likely be the time where he can prove he belongs on the major league stage.
