Phillies All-Decade Team of the 2010s: Breaking down the legends

Jimmy Rollins
During the 2010’s decade, Jimmy Rollins had 2,999 plate appearances, the most among Phillies who played at least half of their games at shortstop during the decade. The franchise’s all-time hit leader, Rollins collected nearly 30 percent (677) of his record number of hits from 2010-14.
The majority of Rollins’ success came in the early 2000s, winning an MVP, Silver Slugger, and multiple Gold Gloves. In 2012 Rollins won his fourth and final Gold Glove despite having a -8 Rdrs (defensive runs saved above average). But, his bat began to decline, never hitting better than .270 during the decade.

Rollins still managed to have the best batting average of the decade among shortstops with at least 700 at-bats. He led the select few who manned the position in nearly every offensive category during the decade with only Freddy Galvis coming close to Rollins’ declining numbers.
In about 500 more at-bats than Galvis, Rollins would have 51 more extra-base hits, 33 more RBI, and 74 fewer strikeouts than his heir.
As the franchise’s all-time hits leader Rollins goes down as one of the greatest players in franchise history despite his decline in the 2010’s. The future of the position currently rests in the much-maligned glove of Jean Segura and could possibly turn towards 2019 first round pick Bryson Stott.
