No. 4: Bob Boone (1972 – 1981)

Boone was better known for his defense behind the plate, consistently throwing out potential base stealers at a rate above the league average. Boone was solid at the plate for a catcher, ranking among the top in franchise history in several categories.

Boone was seventh among catchers in Phillies’ history in runs and home runs, fourth in runs batted in and third in hits and games played. He was a Gold Glove Award winner in 1978 and 1979 and a member of the NL All-Star team in 1976, 1978 and 1979.

Behind the plate for the 1980 World Series championship team, Boone goes down as one of the best catchers in team history. He was inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame in 2005.
