Phillies updated 2018 roster projection: Who’s in, who’s out?

There are some questions in the outfield as the Phillies have four starting-caliber outfielders for three starting spots. How the playing time will be worked out hasn’t been revealed yet, but the players on the roster are easier to figure out:

- RF Nick Williams
- 4th Aaron Altherr
- 5th Roman Quinn
Williams and Altherr are the two jostling for position in right field, but Altherr may better be served as the fourth outfielder. His defense is superior to Williams’ though, so who the starter is considered could change throughout the year.

Quinn has worked his way into the conversation for the Opening Day roster. He is expected to be used as the fifth outfielder and the go-to pinch-runner late in games. His role isn’t what the club hoped for when they drafted him in the second round of the 2012 draft, but at least they are getting something out of him considering all the injuries he’s suffered.
