Phillies updated 2018 roster projection: Who’s in, who’s out?

Infielders

The starting infield was set coming to into spring training. The bench was the only thing left up in the air. This is how I see the infield shaking out:

  • 1B Carlos Santana
  • 2B Cesar Hernandez
  • SS J.P. Crawford
  • 3B Maikel Franco
  • UT Pedro Florimon

The Phillies added Pedro Florimon to the 40-man roster this week as he had a contract stipulation saying he could opt out if he wasn’t added to the roster by March 15. The team definitely thinks he has a real chance to make the Opening Day roster if they added him to the 40-man roster.

The biggest competitor to Florimon is Jesmuel Valentin. He has had a better spring offensively, but Florimon is more versatile defensively.

Kapler is demanding versatility from all of his players, and Florimon has that in spades.
