PHILLIES-MARLINS PITCHING MATCHUPS

MONDAY: Jeremy Hellickson (7-7, 3.84 ERA) vs Jarred Cosart (0-1, 7.98 ERA): perhaps the biggest question of this series is whether or not Hellickson actually takes the hill. A 26-year old righty, Cosart was just recalled from the minors, where he had been banished after making three ineffective starts with the Marlins back in April. A former top 50 prospect, Cosart has thus far been unable to overcome command and control issues to become an effective starter at higher levels.

TUESDAY: Jerad Eickhoff (6-11, 3.98 ERA) vs Tom Koehler (7-8, 4.42 ERA): Eickhoff had been pitching really well all season until recently, when he was blown up in two of his last three outings. Mid-season slump, or the league catching up to him? As with Cosart, the problem for Koehler has been control. However, he has three starts already this season against the Phils, and has gone at least seven innings in each, including an 8-inning, 2-hit gem this past Thursday in Philly.

WEDNESDAY: Zach Eflin (3-3, 3.40 ERA) vs Adam Conley (6-5, 3.58 ERA): Eflin is coming off a masterful complete game shutout of the tough Pittsburgh Pirates, his second CG of his rookie season. He has won three of his last four starts, and has a streak of a half-dozen consecutive Quality Start outings. Keep this up, and he will drive himself into NL Rookie of the Year discussions. Conley is a 26-year old righty pitching well in just his second full season. He beat the Phils back in mid-May despite allowing eight hits over six innings.
