Placido Polanco set a new career high in hits (not to mention a Phillies record for April) and RBI for a month. The former was accomplished by his sixth inning single and the latter was achieved with his game winning SAC fly scoring Wilson Valdez making the score 2-1.

So, Roy Halladay threw another complete game today. During the game, the announcers were talking about the active major league leaders in the art of pitching nine innings. At the start of today’s game Roy was leading the way with 59 complete games with Livan Hernandez trailing by ten games (Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt rank 10th and 13th respectively). The first 18 pitches Roy threw went over the plate and 80 of his 106 pitches were strikes. Who the hell can do that to major league hitters? Apparently the answer is Roy Halladay. Apparently he has done it 60 times. (more…)

Ryan Howard ended the scoring in the top of the ninth with a solo home run to deep center off of D-Backs closer J.J. Putz. Imagine going through life with the last name Putz AND playing for the Mets. Yikes. After Ryan Madson walked a tightrope in the ninth the final score was 8-4.

The start after a pitcher throws a bunch of pitches is always a little concerning. In his last start, Cole Hamels was pushed to his limit, throwing 130 pitches in his eight innings against the Padres. Today marked his first start after that Herculean effort. Hamels was close to dominant allowing four hits while striking out eight in his seven innings of work. His velocity was good, consistently reaching 93 MPH with his fastball. (more…)

I think that a torrent of swearing and crying is the only way to handle when something does not go your way. Acting like a bratty two year old when your favorite baseball has problems, seems apt when 50% of the starting infield, the team’s number one prospect and the closer have experienced some sort of injury. Earlier in the spring Cliff Lee had some sort of religious experience/epiphany concerning his pitching mechanics. I wonder if Cliff could have some sort of conversation with God to stop breaking our baseball team. (more…)
