"Damn," Dom continued without a delirious chuckle. "Ha ha wow."

Like all of us, Dom Brown is from somewhere.

May 19, 2013; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Domonic Brown (9) makes a sliding catch in the sixth inning at Citizens Bank Park.
Unlike your somewhere, Dom’s is home to the person who just won the Powerball.

“Holy ***t!” Dom did not exclaim. ”I honestly can’t even process this right now. I just… wow. To hear the name of the place you’re from on the news, in relation to a stranger who lives there winning the Powerball, is above and beyond one of my greatest accomplishments as a Major League Baseball player.”

“Damn,” Dom continued without a delirious chuckle. ”Ha ha wow.”

It was the Publix super market that sold the winning $590.5 million ticket, sending Zephyrhills’ recently richest citizen into a whole new world. No word yet on whether Dom know the person or cares about the Powerball because he’s a pro ball player, but there was confirmation that he has shopped at this particular supermarket.

“I feel like I won the money, in a way,” Dom continued not saying. ”I almost feel like maybe I’m owed a little of that money. Or like, a lot of it. Ha ha ha. I’m joking. But maybe I should get some though.”

Mar. 12, 2013; Phoenix AZ, USA; Philadelphia Phillies infielder Ryan Howard (6) sits in the dugout in the fifth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.
Being the good teammate that he is, Ryan Howard isn’t letting Carlos Ruiz stay behind and be the only one getting an MRI.

After some knee troubles surfaced for Howard, he’ll be hanging out at the doctor’s office today too, while the rest of the team jets to Miami.

Actually, Ruiz will be joining Howard. Ryan didn’t play at all Sunday due to knee soreness, while Chooch’s exit was just a delightful gift from the baseball gods, in the form of a “pop” in his leg while running the bases.

Weeeee.

Regardless, they’ll both be there, awaiting results that if our current luck is any indication will be miraculous.

“I’ve been able to tough it out but told (Manuel) it was sore.”

–Ryan Howard, via ESPN

So Ryan’s been playing through soreness, which is really only effective when you’re able to produce despite the injury, not fail because of it. Of course, Ryan’s spent the year hitting better than I think. Every time I think he’s definitely got to be under .200 by now, I look and see he’s closer to .250. Maybe they should start taking off more points when he swings and misses at a breaking ball that could hit him in his back foot.

I mean he does have four hits in his last 34 ABs. But one of them won a game. So.

This is the hamstring. It sounds like a disgusting novelty breakfast, but it's actually pretty important to physical movement.

Chooch left yesterday’s glorious series-winning victory with a hamstring injury.

It was a terrible scene on an otherwise wonderful afternoon that for a while actually sucked pretty bad. But Chooch, not much longer after returning from a 25-game adderall suspension to start the season, is now gone once more, leaving us in the very capable hands of the Phillies’ back up-back up catcher.

So Humberto Quintero is on my flight to Miami.

— Chris Branch (@ChrisBranchTNJ) May 20, 2013

It feels like just weeks ago, we were watching our calendars, patiently and/or angrily waiting for Chooch to be freed of his mandated shackles. Then, that day finally came, and there was his smiling Chooch-face for all of us to enjoy. Sure, we didn’t win many games, but it was nice to have his presence around to break up all the Utley death-stares.

May 19, 2013; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Home plate umpire Marty Foster (60) and Philadelphia Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz (51) stand with a young Phillies fan during the National Anthem before the game against the Cincinnati Reds at Citizens Bank Park. Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Now, Chooch-watch begins again, this time with more concern than impatience. This is no mix-up at the pharmacy or tearful confession. This is the hamstring. It sounds like a disgusting novelty breakfast, but it’s actually pretty important to physical movement, unlike any hamstring Jimmy Dean could come up with.

And now, we’re left Choochless for god knows how long. He’s staying in Philly while the team travels to Miami, getting his MRI on with Ryan Howard.

He’ll re-join the Phils on Tuesday, with hopefully good news, but until then, everybody get comfortable with the pulse-having Humberto Quintero.
