Today, through ESPN.com’s Paul Lukas he gives us a first look at the new MLB batting practice caps that all the teams will be wearing including your Philadelphia Phillies.

Many baseball and Phillies fans should be excited with these caps because they are different and gives every team a new feel. These new caps will be worn in spring training as well so fans go get them you will be sure to like them.

We all know the Phillies had the same old batting practice caps with the all red, the blue Phillies P, and the blue lining around it but it gets an extreme makeover this time around. The batting practice caps according to Lukas are an inverse of the Phils alternate caps and we all do like the alternate caps, well I know I do.

This batting practice cap will feature an all blue peak and then the cap itself will be all red and the Phillies P stays all blue. Now doesn’t it seem like that’s something you can wear all the time. Lukas gave the Phillies an A for their new batting practice cap.

Within the NL East the batting practice caps changed too! On the Mets batting practice cap Mr. Met himself will be on the front as the peak of the cap will be all orange. The Nationals are going for a more traditional look with their caps as they got an all red peak, but the front of the cap is white and Nationals W is all red.

The Marlins also do the same exact thing as the Nationals with their design but the Braves have the most interesting design out of everyone in the division. Instead of just having the regular A, they went and decided to put the screaming Indian on the front of the cap. We all thought that phase was over with but its not and Lukas gave the Braves a F.

Hopefully, you like all of these new batting practice caps from all the teams in major league baseball some of them have a keen sense of fashion while others need to reevaluate their fashion sense.

No one is expecting Ender Inciarte to start in center field and organize local charities and grow to love Philadelphia more than any place besides his Venezuelan home.

No one is expecting that, just because Shane Victorino was also a CF taken in the Rule 5 Draft by the Phillies. But we do want it.

The Phillies plucked the 22-year-old outfielder from the bowels of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ farm system in the Rule 5 Draft this morning, sending personnel to drag him sobbing from his family and teammates within hours. His numbers:

Low-A Midwest League (2010-12): 902 AB, 235 H, 44 doubles, 17 triples, 3 HR, 75 RBI, 49 SB, 23 CS, 92 BB, 125 SO, .260/.328/.365

High-A California League (2012): 248 AB, 79 H, 12 doubles, 5 triples, 1 HR, 17 RBI, 28 SB, 8 CS, 22 BB, 32 SO, .319/.377/.419

Venezuelan Winter League: 80 AB, 18 H, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 5 RBI, .225/.284/.288

Inciarte has some speed, playing center and stealing bases somewhat successfully. He also manages to hit, like, one home run a year, in a weirdly consistent way. That batting average has been sneaking upward since his entry into the Low-A, from .225 to .293 just before his promotion.

Hailing from Maracaibo in Venezuela’s northwestern sector, Inciarte was drafted in 2008 by the Snakes and, after some normal struggles due to acclimating with a new culture, host family, and English lessons, adjusted well. His native region is a known hotbed for simmering baseball talent, as his older brother won the Little League World Series with Maracaibo’s team in 2000.

“My agent called me at [midnight] and said ‘Ender, can I see you tomorrow? You’re going to sign a contract with the Diamondbacks. I was like, ‘What? Are you serious?’ I’ll never forget that day.”

–Ender Inciarte

Lastly, here is the first image released from the upcoming sci fi film, Ender’s Game.

After having a pretty good season with the Phillies, third basemen Kevin Frandsen has been re-signed to a one year deal. A source confirmed this with CSNPhilly.com’s Phillies Baseball Insider Jim Salisbury.

According to the source, the one year deal is worth $850,000 and by Frandsen signing this deal he has avoided arbitration. Earlier, in the off-season the Phillies declined third basemen Placido Polanco’s $5.5 million option. Even though, Frandsen is 30 years old, he did a great job at third base for the Phils. In 55 games, Frandsen hit .338 in only 195 plate appearances. He also had career highs in on base percentage and slugging percentage, his OBP was .383 and SLG was .383.

Finally, last season Frandsen would hit two home runs and have 14 RBIs. If the Phillies decide to go in another direction this off-season, I think a platoon of Frandsen and Freddy Galvis can be serviceable until minor leaguer Cody Asche is ready to play for the big league team.
