Sure he’s adorable, he does a really good job handling the pitchers and he’s a solid defensive catcher, but we can never really expect lofty numbers from the erstwhile backstop known as Chooch.  Okay, maybe we can amend that to include some clutch postseason hits.  Apparently this season has transformed Carlos Ruiz into Carlton Fisk.  Chooch hit a go ahead home run in the top of the eighth to give the chance to hang on for dear life to a one run lead before a bunch of random dudes got some hits off some other random dudes and made this one a laugher.

Vance Worley’s arm is hurt.  This means that Kyle Kendrick will get yet another chance to slot into the rotation in an attempt to make us all find out where he lives and kill his cats.  I mentioned yesterday in my recap that Kyle would surely do fine if the wind was blowing in, good thing for all of us, it was.  Kendrick only allowed three hits in six innings and generally didn’t look like the worst pitcher in baseball.   (more…)

I am not really sure what to say here.  I suppose I could attempt some form of analysis, but that may be a little too rational for me right now.  Matt Garza is a pretty good pitcher.  He looked like Tom freaking Seaver.  The Phillies managed one hit, a bloop single in the top of the first by Jimmy Rollins, and proceeded to be retired in order until Juan Pierre walked in the sixth inning. They managed to avoid the shut out by letting Carlos Marmol walk in a run.

Ty Wigginton’s hit streak is over.  The offense didn’t work the count and didn’t make contact as evidenced by Garza’s ten strikeouts.  I suppose the only solace you can take from this shit storm is that Kyle Kendrick didn’t ruin everything.  5-1 Phillies loss.

Turn the page.  Vance Worley goes up against Chris Volstad.  I think they should let a half crippled Ryan Howard hit on account of how much he has killed him over the years.

The ace pitchers have been struggling as of late.  Cole Hamels got the shit kicked out of him by the Mets and Doc was bested by the Cubs and mother nature.   (more…)
