Unlike most players, Benny actually existed prior to playing for the Phillies.  We know this not because he was spectacular in any way, but because his name was oft-mentioned in the same breath as “Cliff Lee,” having been the garnish on that trade deadline feast.  Then, he gets to play for the Phillies, for a few years, which was anywhere from pretty fine and good to forehead-massagingly bad. This one was pretty terrifying.  We were all prepared for a pitchers duel, but preparedness does not make a tight game any less vomit inducing.   Jamie Garcia and Cole Hamels both threw zeros up through the first six innings with the Phillies mustering very little offense against the young left hander.   (more…)

Some buzz is starting to be heard that the Phillies could make a play for none other than Jim Thome, who recently hit his 600th home run.

Well it’s about time we had some wild fantasy to bury our heads in.  With the horrific trauma of the past weekend behind us, we can now focus on delusional waiver deadline deals to distract ourselves from the maiming of Jimmy Rollins and all the other meaningless crap in our lives, like work and kids.  It is time now to turn our attention to the things that matter, like Jim Thome once again wearing a Phillies jersey or staring out our office windows, dreaming of getting in the car and abandoning our kids forever.
