Ramos struggled in the Phillies bullpen, clearing his path back to the IronPigs

It’s not the major roster move Phillies fans have awaited, but it’s something as the 50-loss team moves through their west coast road trip.

Reliever Edubray Ramos has been demoted to Lehigh Valley after posting a 5.52 ERA in 35 appearances out of the bullpen. Replacing him will be Ricardo Pinto, who appeared in the bullpen once earlier this year.

Prior to his major league promotion, Pinto was the 15th ranked prospect in the Phillies organization.

Ramos struggled mightily in 31 relief innings this season, allowing 34 hits and 19 earned runs. His command and confidence were lost, evident over his last five appearances when he failed to pitch a full inning or allow less than one earned run.

Pinto has struggled in his own right at the major league level in fewer appearances, allowing four runs in two innings of relief. His numbers in Lehigh Valley haven’t been outstanding either, allowing 35 runs in 53.1 innings out of the bullpen and starting rotation.

Ramos’ demotion is the latest in a purge of the bullpen that’s seen former closer Jeanmar Gomez be released outright by the organization.

Hoby Milner joined the major league club this week and struggled in his major league debut pitching two innings and giving up a run.

Meanwhile, veterans Pat Venditte and Pedro Beato continue to plow through hitters in the minors.

Venditte, the famous switch-pitcher, has a 2.85 ERA for the IronPigs while Beato leads all of minor league baseball in saves with 22.
