Phillies split-squad games on Sunday resulted in much different outcomes

Split-squad games give fans the opportunity to see more prospects on the road and at home, which is what Phillies fans got a chance to see on Sunday.

Half of the organization stayed in Clearwater to play the Tigers, while the other half went on the road to play Baltimore.

At home, the Phillies launched yet another comeback after seeing Clay Buchholz allow four runs in three innings to Detroit. Michael Saunders and Rhys Hoskins hit home runs in the fourth inning, followed up by a two-run double by Freddy Galvis in the sixth.

With the game tied at five runs apiece the Phillies bats came alive once again in the seventh inning. Nick Williams was the first to shock the bats back to life with a RBI single to drive in Scott Kingery. Hector Gomez then lined a two-run double to right field to make it a three-run lead for the Phils.

Luis Garcia, Adam Morgan, Joely Rodriguez, and Edubray Ramos each came out of the pen strong, combining to throw six one-run innings.

Alec Asher and prospect Elniery Garcia lost the game from there in the bullpen after allowing three runs and four walks in three and two-thirds innings.

Ricardo Pinto stopped the bleeding in his inning and a third with two strikeouts, but it was not enough.

Chris Coghlan backed up his case for a roster spot with an RBI single in the third inning, while Cameron Rupp hit a solo home run in the sixth to take a short-lived lead.

Roman Quinn, Andrew Knapp, Maikel Franco, Tommy Joseph, and J.P. Crawford combined to hit 1-13 as the club was held to just four hits all day.

Quinn made up for it with a great over the shoulder catch.

The team will reunite to play the Tigers on Tuesday with Aaron Nola scheduled to get his second start of the spring.
