The Phillies eked out their first win of the spring with a 6-5 walk-off win over the Yankees courtesy of first baseman Brock Stassi.

The Phillies picked up their first win of 2017 spring training with a 6-5 victory over the Yankees Saturday afternoon. Brock Stassi drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth after New York tied the game in the top of the inning.

Philadelphia’s starting lineup Saturday could be very similar to the one we see this year at Citizen’s Bank Park. The lineup was as follows:

More from Phillies News

  1. 2B Cesar Hernandez
  2. LF Howie Kendrick
  3. CF Odubel Herrera
  4. 3B Maikel Franco
  5. DH Michael Saunders
  6. 1B Tommy Joseph
  7. SS Freddy Galvis
  8. C Cameron Rupp
  9. RF Aaron Altherr

Adam Morgan started the game for Philadelphia and went two scoreless innings. The lefty struck out one batter but allowed two hits.

The first run of the game came in the top of the ninth when Cesar Ramos gave up a double to Gleyber Torres then allowed him to score on a wild pitch.

New York’s lead didn’t last long. Rupp singled and came around to third on an error the next at-bat. Hernandez drove in Rupp on a groundout to the tie the game 1-1.

Ricardo Pinto threw a scoreless fourth, then Franco homered in the bottom of the inning to give Philadelphia a 2-1 lead over the Yankees. It was Franco’s first home run of the spring.

New York took the lead in the top of the fifth on another wild pitch, this time coming courtesy of Mark Appel. His pitches showed some great movement, but the prospect still has a long way to go before he can be considered major-league ready.

Philadelphia came alive in the bottom of the sixth as they scored three runs in the inning. Herrera ground into a double play but drove in a run in the process, tying the game at three. Franco hit another home run, this time coming in the form of a inside-the-parker as the ball went off center fielder Tyler Wade and through a hole in the bottom of the fence [VIDEO]. Rhys Hoskins powered a home run over the right field fence to make it a 5-3 game.

After Joely Rodriguez threw a scoreless seventh, Edubray Ramos came on to throw the eighth. He gave up two hits and a walk as the Yankees cut the Phils’ lead to one on a Kellin Deglan RBI single.

Manager Pete Mackanin called on Hector Neris to close out the game in the top of the ninth and he got two quick outs to start the inning. However, third baseman Hector Gomez allowed a pop up to drop that he should have caught, putting a runner on second base with two outs. An RBI single the next at-bat tied the game at 5-5.

The Phillies got just one half-inning to tie the game as it seemed unlikely the two sides would go to extra innings. After a Gomez strikeout, Hoskins doubled on a line drive to left field and Roman Quinn came on to pinch-run for him. Stassi singled in the next at-bat, driving in Quinn and winning the game for Philadelphia. The walk-off is sure to help Stassi’s chances as he pushes for a roster spot this spring.

Franco’s two RBI led the team while he and Hoskins shared the lead for the most hits with two. Despite New York tying the game on his account, Neris took home his first win of the spring.
