Phillies Prospect Mickey Moniak Reveals First Big Purchase

What did the Phillies 18-year-old prospect buy with $6 million?

Imagine being 17-years-old and being handed a check for $6.1 million before you graduate high school. That’s what happened when the Phillies drafted outfielder Mickey Moniak with the first-overall pick last summer to be part of their future outfield.

Many athletes go big when they get their first big contract buying cars, a house, clothes, or other toys that leave their friends jealous.

Moniak, on the other hand, went a bit smaller and more predictable with his first “major purchase” after being drafted.

While playing the rapid fire question game “Quick Six” on Comcast SportsNet’s Philly Sports Talk Moniak was asked by Michael Barkan what his first major purchase was.

Like any other teenager would, regardless of being a professional athlete, Moniak went with a new Playstation as his first major purchase.

Moniak had his expected ups and downs while playing rookie ball in the Phils organization this year, but will get an extended look in 2017. At just 18-years-old he was named the Phillies second-best prospect and one of the top-10 outfield prospects in baseball.

While he may not play in Citizens Bank Park any time soon, fans can expect to see great things from Moniak fairly soon.

It would not surprise me to see the 18-year-old enter Single-A ball at some point next season thanks to his advanced hitting tools and Gold Glove-caliber defense in the outfield.
