Larry Bowa talked about the Phillies possibly acquiring Howie Kendrick less than two hours before the trade was announced

You can always count on Phillies bench coach Larry Bowa to let something slip every once and a while when a microphone is around.

While making a special brief appearance on The Mike Missanelli Show on 97.5 The Fanatic Friday afternoon, Bowa was asked about any potential trades or free agents.

At approximately 3:04 p.m. E.T. Bowa called up Missanelli for about three minutes originally to wish the host a happy birthday. The topic of the offseason then came up.

"Bowa: I’ll tell ya a guy whose name’s been out there is Kendrick of the Dodgers. He’s a professional hitter….Aug 16, 2016; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers left fielder Howie Kendrick (47) watches his two run home run against Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez (28) during the fifth inning at Citizens Bank Park. They might be making some moves. I haven’t heard any inside stuff. Matt (Klentak) is not afraid to pull the trigger on some guys that people probably think ‘oh, this guy’s gonna be here for a while.’ You saw Giles last year…it would be very difficult to have the same line-up… and I think Hellickson’s gonna test the free agent market…"

At approximately 4:20, the trade become official through the Dodgers Twitter account and Missanelli hears of the trade.

More from That Balls Outta Here

Bowa dropped a couple of “Easter eggs” for us to pick through in his three minute interview with Missanelli. First off, he talked about Howie Kendrick being traded a little more than an hour before the deal was announced.

Second, Bowa said the infield could see some shakeups, including young players you would not expect to see moved. That (to me) points towards Cesar Hernandez, who has been rumored to be on the trade block.

Finally, the Phillies bench coach predicted pitcher Jeremy Hellickson would decline the qualifying offer and pursue free agency, just as the Phillies planned back in July.

Leave it to Bowa to be the Phillies insider breaking all the moves before they happen. I doubt Klentak will bring him into any meetings anytime soon.
