Franco was hit by a pitch early in Friday’s game by Gerritt Cole

Phillies fans went into near-panic mode when third baseman Maikel Franco took a pitch to the same wrist he broke last season.

Thankfully, the x-ray results came back negative on his wrist despite some swelling.

A first inning pitch from Gerritt Cole ran inside on Franco and nailed him on his left wrist. Franco immediately went down to the ground in pain, but remained in the game after talking to the trainers.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Phillies took Franco out of the game for “precautionary measures,” and inserted Andres Blanco over at the hot-corner.

Franco spoke to the media after the game, and acknowledged he was nervous after being hit in the exact same spot he broke his wrist last season.

"“I was scared at first because it was sore and was getting puffy. I felt better [after getting treatment], though. I think everything will be fine.”"

It would not be surprising to see the Phillies rest Franco Saturday against Pirates top pitching prospect Tyler Glasnow, who has hit 17 batters over the course of five minor league seasons.

Maikel Franco leads the Phillies with 18 home runs and 55 RBI in 92 games.

Thankfully, the Phillies didn’t need Franco’s bat Friday in their 4-0 win over the Pirates. Rookie Zach Eflin pitched a complete game shutout, and catcher Cameron Rupp provided three RBI. Two of Rupp’s RBI were courtesy of a two-run home run in the ninth inning.

Aaron Nola will get the ball tomorrow for the Phillies as he looks to build off his strong return to the regular rotation last week.
