NOTES

The cold that has enveloped Citizens Bank Park over the last two nights has lifted, but the poor overall weather has not. Rain in the forecast, possibly thunderstorms, could delay the action at some point.

The Nats are banged up physically, with three key players out of their regular lineup due to injuries. Former Phillie Werth is on a rehab assignment, and not likely back until some time next week. Span has been playing in simulated games, and could possibly see action this weekend, though is is more likely they will hold him out a bit longer as well. Rendon sprained the MCL in his left knee, and there is no timetable for his return, but it will probably not be until the end of April at the earliest.

Gonzalez gets his first start of the year for the Nats. He was Phillies property previously, but never pitched for the team. On November 8th, 2005 the Phils received the then 20-year old Gonzalez from the White Sox as the PTBNL in the trade that sent Jim Thome to Chicago for Aaron Rowand. In December of 2006, the Phils packaged him with Gavin Floyd to the White Sox for Freddy Garcia.

Williams was an unexpected bright spot in the Phillies dismal 2014 season. He was selected off waivers from the Texas Rangers last August 10th. In 9 starts over the final two months, Williams went 4-2 with a 2.83 ERA and 1.134 WHIP and really helped stabilize the rotation. He did not carry that over into the spring, however. In the Grapefruit League, Williams went 0-4 with a 7.40 ERA and a 1.84 WHIP.

Dom Brown, on the 15-day DL, began a rehab assignment last night with the team’s High-A Clearwater Threshers affiliate. He went 0-2, striking out in both plate appearances.
