Ryan Howard alters his batting stance

The Philadelphia Phillies finally came away with a victory Monday night, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2. As crazy as that sounds, something even crazier occurred during the game: Ryan Howard altered his batting stance.

During his plate appearance in the third inning, Howard’s hands and elbows were positioned noticeably much lower, as you can see in the image below.

This at-bat was in the top of the 3rd, and he was able to drive Chase Utley home on an RBI single.

Howard told CSN Philly after the game:

“It’s a game of adjustments.”

He also said:

“I talked to Byrdie a little bit and he kind of noticed my hands were up a little bit and he said, ‘Drop ‘em and see how it feels.’ So I’m dropping ‘em and working on it.”

Despite going just 1-for-3 in the game, hopefully this quicker swing will lead to more productive at-bats at the plate.
