Offense Abandons Cliff Lee in 2-0 Barnburner

So there are a bunch of people (by people I mean callers on talk radio stations who live in their parent’s basements) who have been clamoring for the Phillies to play more small ball.  “Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino are fast and they should bunt more.”  “Also Ryan Howard should bunt down the third base line to screw up the shift.”  they bellow incoherently.  I am going to attempt to be clever here.  I realize that “small ball” refers to a team that moves runners along and manufactures runs in lieu of waiting for someone to hit a home run and I plan to utilize the word small to refer to the amount of hits that the Phillies acquired in today’s game.  Doesn’t get much smaller than four hits!  Get it?

Cliff Lee looked sharp.  It seems that the Phillies are going to be able to pitch.  The rub here stems from the fact that Carlos Ruiz was today’s offensive star by going 2-3 with two singles.  I know that it is spring training and Ryan Howard strikes out a ton, but I really want someone on this team that can hit home runs.  I wonder why Ryan Howard isn’t seeing a specialist/medicine man a la Chase Utley to someone cheat death/make a deal with the devil.  Time will tell I suppose.

2-0 loss for the Phillies today.  Vance Worley goes against Hiroki Kuroda and the Yankees tomorrow afternoon.
