On a surface level, this work succeeds as an expression of childlike imagination. But like any great art, it holds deeper truths within its layers. While the work's uneven perspective, the use of bright pastel colors and the crayon medium with which it's made all lead the viewer to believe that the blimp motif is a "flight" of fancy, is it necessarily so? Or could it be that the artist, within the Trojan horse known as "kitsch", has subtly implanted the Hindenburg as a symbol of the 2011 Philadelphia Phillies?

The 2011 Phillies - the pride of a people. The 2011 Phillies who shined so brightly in the sun. The 2011 Phillies - designed and engineered for perfection. The 2011 Phillies - supposed to usher in a new era. The 2011 Phillies who performed perfectly even until the very last leg of their journey. The 2011 Phillies who suddenly burst into flames and crashed to the ground in a horrible tragedy. The 2011 Phillies - once amongst the clouds, brought down to earth, left to watch the soaring Cardinals with envy.

Yes, you were right to be suspicious of the "adorable child" facade. Few will appreciate the dark depths etched by such bright colors. Few will predict that the bright, sunny day will end in fire. Few will look through the child's smile and see menace. And those who do will be quickly dismissed. This could be the most diabolical and subversive artistic expression of our time. God have mercy on us all.
