This is probably a pretty surprising development for a converted second baseman with scant offensive output to garner any attention in the MVP voting process. Carlos Ruiz begs to differ. With a 23rd place finish Ruiz proved that a short, offensively challenged Panamanian can parlay his ability to get really good pitchers to throw pitches into a successful baseball career.
He is a cult figure in Philadelphia and now finished 2011 as the National leagues’ twenty third most valuable player.
He finished just behind Yadier Molina…damn it.
