Phillies Knock Braves From Playoffs With Sweep

The Phillies just won their 102nd game.  This team has just set a new single season victory record by defeating the Atlanta Braves in 13 innings tonight.  In doing so the Phillies also knocked the Atlanta Braves out of the playoff picture, finishing off a Braves season in which they squandered what seemed like an insurmountable lead in the wild card race.

After the final out tonight, the Phillies cleared up the playoff picture.  St. Louis will be coming to Philadelphia.  There will be no play in games.

With the win Charlie Manuel became the Phillies’ all time winningest manager.  Congratulations Charlie.  It is impressive that you have won this many games when it is very possible that no one on your team knows what the hell you are saying.

After a season like this, recapping statistics does little to describe how impressive a team like this is.  This is truly the best Phillies team that I have ever seen.

Justin DeFratus got his first major league win and David Herndon earned his first major league save.  The Phillies knocked the Braves out of the playoffs in what was essentially a meaningless game for them.  This type of thing will never get old.

Bring on the Cardinals.
