Tonight Was Cliff Lee’s Sixth Shutout of the Year

How mad do you think that Yankees are every time that Bartolo Colon waddles out to the mound in lieu of the free agent pitcher that spurned them for the Phillies?  Cliff Lee has been absolutely untouchable for the last month.  There are ton of numbers that speak to his dominance and we can all see the opposing hitters flailing impotently at his offering.

I am just happy that Cliff does not wear the Yankee pinstripes.  Getting the top free agents is commonplace in New York.  There is pretty much no way that Lee would receive the  affection from their fanbase that he garners from Philadelphia.  I think I speak for everyone when I say, we all love you Cliff.  Thank you for making a fool of the Yankees.

The Braves come to town fresh off of a game in which they salvaged a series split with the Los Angeles Dodgers against a Cy Young contender in Clayton Kershaw.  Lee smashed any hope of momentum holding the Atlanta offense to no runs on five hits.  I think there may have been only one or two hard hit balls all night.  The Braves were without Chipper Jones and rookie of the year candidate Freddie Freeman is essentially playing on one leg.   With Lee’s current streak, the Brave offense was pretty much doomed from the get go in this one regardless of its construction.

Derek Lowe is well on his way to his first losing season since his 2007 campaign.  The Phillies were more than happy than to oblige him in helping him in that regard handing him his thirteenth loss of the season.  Lowe struggled through five innings of work coughing up seven runs and eight hits.  Hunter Pence started the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two run double giving Lee more than enough support.  Shane Victorino plated another two runs with a fourth inning bases loaded single and the offense scored another three runs in the fifth.  Good news Braves fans!  Derek Lowe is under contract for another year at 15 million dollars.

Welcome to September Ryan Howard.  Howard went 2-3 today with two walks and a home run.  In his last three games Howard is 5-9 with six walks.

Cliff Lee is a bad ass.  9-0 Phils win.

Tomorrow the Phils go for the series win with Vance Worley going against Tim Hudson.
