Ian Kennedy, owner of a 5.64 ERA this season, just fired a three hit shutout against the Phils, striking out ten batters along the way. Kennedy managed to lower his ERA to 4.02 after tonight. I am having a difficult time writing anything that does not degenerate into a violently obscene barrage of cursing.
Placido Polanco was the only player that actually hit the ball this evening as he went 2-4 with a double. We got to see the major league debut of Michael Stutes, who acquitted himself well in his one inning of work. Cliff Lee struck out a shit ton of D-Backs (twelve in all) but also allowed a two run home run to Chris Young and a solo shot to Gerardo Parra (who has no business hitting a home run against anyone).
So much for the crappy pitching of Arizona waking up the bats. Phils lose 4-0 in a rage inducing and utterly forgettable affair. Oswalt goes tomorrow against young righty Daniel Hudson. Let’s turn the page quickly on this one to avoid incarceration for assaulting a neighbor that kind of looks like Kirk Gibson.
