The party’s over, and Brian went home with somebody else. You can stop your stumbling attempts at seductive dance moves now, Phillies.
Did the Phillies really have a ton of interest in him? Probably not. But they were willing to go public with their thought process on the set up man/closer, and in an age where “We probably won’t sign Cliff Lee” means, “JK! Here he is,” you can’t take “We’re definitely not that interested” as anything definitive.
I mean, they’ve got to be open to the notion of adding a stellar arm to this bullpen, but if he’s asking for anything more than a pocket full of dreams in return, then we’re probably cashing out early. Also, it’s not unfathomable to consider Lidge, Madson, and Contreras forming some sort of functional late game ecosystem.
Anyways, Fuentes is going to the A’s, one of the other teams who were asking if they were asking about Brian Fuentes.
I’m starting to think I’m the only Phillies-person who was really following this story anyway.
