He Has Landed!

AUTHOR: | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

It has been reported that pitcher Pedro Martinez has landed in Philadelphia for his physical. If Martinez does after all pass the all important physical, then I would expect a comeback stint in Reading or Lehigh-Valley within the next week or so. Most likely the Phils would offer Martinez a contract before the All-Star break is up, so they can get the wheels rolling and get Martinez into the starting rotation within 5-10 games of the second half. I have to say though, if the Phils were to sign Martinez, it would probably minimize all of the hype of the [...]

Favoritism, and Bad Luck

AUTHOR: | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Less than 24 hours after Philadelphia Phillies centerfielder Shane Victorino won the All-Star Final Vote to get into the All-Star game, Charlie Manuel, manager for the National League team selected outfielder Jayson Werth to replace fellow outfielder Carlos Beltran. Manuel said that Werth was “his guy”, and that that helped in picking Werth over other players such as Matt Kemp or maybe Manny Ramirez. The Phillies now have five players in the All-Star game: Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, Ryan Howard, Victorino, and Werth. The Phillies are only the second team in the history of the All-Star game to have their [...]

Halladay Trade Proposal

AUTHOR: | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to FoxSports reporter Ken Rosenthal, the Toronto Blue Jays are listening to offers for ace Roy Halladay.  Of course, every team will listen to offers if it was good enough, but this sounds like a headline. The Phillies need a quality starting pitcher, and the Blue Jays are looking to unload some of their salary cap. It seems like a perfect match made in heaven, but there are a couple of potential problems. To make this trade happen, both teams will have to get multiple teams involved. That might end up being in the Phils best interest, but it [...]

Scouting Reports

AUTHOR: | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Today I made the trip to Reading to see the Reading Phillies, the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. There were not too many top prospects on the field as Michael Taylor got part of the game off, Kyle Drabek pitches tomorrow, Joe Savery pitched yesterday, and Mike Zagurski pitched in relief the past couple of games, so he was unavailable. But, I did come back with some reports on the prospects who did play. The starting pitcher for the Phillies, Yohan Flande pitched 6 strong innings, and then the wheels came off of the bus in the 7th. With [...]
