Gametime is set for 10:15 pm eastern time.
In other news, new addition Ben Francisco will be batting 2nd in the batting order, and he will be playing center field in wake of Shane Victorino’s injury. Victorino is still out, and will be for maybe a couple more games.

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Here is the link for the game thread over in the forums.
After the Phillies first loss in 5 games last night, they move on to face the San Francisco Giants in San Fran.
The Phils will send Rodrigo Lopez to the mound in likely his last start in the rotation for awhile. Lopez will face Johnathan Sanchez, famous for that no-hitter he threw a couple starts ago.
Gametime is 9:40 pm eastern time. Head on over to the forums and talk about the Phils, or just stay here and discuss in the comments as the Phils look to get back to their [...]

Is Cliff Lee the New Harry Potter?

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the arrival of ace Cliff Lee, the expectations are running high for the 2009 Philadelphia Phillies. With people across Philly excited for the possibilities that Lee could bring to the Phillies this post-season.

It is looking like Lee’s first game will be against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. The opposing pitcher? Reigning National League Cy Young winner, Tim Lincecum.
That game is a match made in heaven. To have the two reigning Cy Young winners facing off against each other is awesome. My only regret is that this game is not in Philly!
To have a game of this caliber not [...]

Cliff Lee Has Spoken!

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Fresh off of learning that he has been traded, new Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee had a few words to say on his thoughts about the trade:
“Obviously, I’m going to miss all these guys here, but it’s an opportunity for me to help a team that’s in first place and is the defending world champion. As far as that goes, I’m excited. But I’ve got to figure out how to get there and meet up with them and get acclimated to their team. It’s exciting. It’s kind of neat knowing Benny’s going with me, so I don’t have to do it [...]

It’s A Done Deal: Cliff Lee to Phils

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ruben Amaro has done it! He has supplanted himself among some of the best general managers in the game today. He has listened to the fans and his coach, and went out and got not only an ace to back up Cole Hamels in Cliff Lee, but a right handed bat to come off of the bench in Ben Francisco.
After weeks of reports that said that the Phillies were going after Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, the Phillies stayed true to themselves, and what they believed in, despite many critics, and turned their heads when the Jays demanded the [...]

Phillies Plethora of Pitching

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: 18 Comments

The Phillies scouts and front office people are busier than ever. They have to scout both Roy Halladay, and Cliff Lee, and in between scouting sessions, they have to review stats, stats, and more stats to make sure that making a trade for one of the aces available in a trade, is worthwhile. Oh and did I mention that the general manager and all of his little helpers have to deal with J.P. Ricciardi, and his ridiculous demands!
Well, it seems that Ricciardi is finally coming around, and is finally starting to see the daylight, and the upside to listening to [...]

Helllllo Cliff “Plan B” Lee

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

With a Roy Halladay trade now seemingly impossible with the sudden new found power of the Blue Jays front office, the Phillies are now turning their attention to trying to get a trade done for Cliff Lee.

This could be a ploy to try to get the Jays to lower their asking price since now no one is really drooling at the idea of giving up 3-4 of their top prospects.
Also, this could be a big move that gives the Phils even more fire power, and would still enable them to keep Kyle Drabek, J.A. Happ, and Dominic Brown.
While the Phillies [...]

Halladay Inching Out of Phillies Grasp?

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Toronto Blue Jays are seemingly getting further and further away from a deal for ace Roy Halladay.
After reports across the internet were reporting that Halladay was all but buying his plane ticket to Philly from getting the trade done.
Now it seems that Halladay is staying in Toronto for the time being, and there seems to be nothing the Phils can do about it.
The Phillies have been offering just about everything that they can offer, within reason that is. The Blue Jays are staying put in that they want top prospects Kyle Drabek, Dominic Brown, and [...]

Letter to J.P. Ricciardi

With all of the Roy Halladay rumors going around, one could get the impression that the Phillies and the Toronto Blue Jays are getting further apart than they would like.
There is reasonable cause for the sudden rift in negotiations, and I think it stems from the outrageous demands made by Blue Jays general manager, J.P. Ricciardi.
Ricciardi has asked for Kyle Drabek, J.A. Happ, and outfielder Dominic Brown. While trading Brown does not seem like that big of a deal right [...]
