Phils Win Series Finale, Take Series Over Yankees

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

You knew that it would be a pitchers duel. You just didn’t know which pitcher would win.
It turned out that neither would get the decision.
Brad Lidge made sure of that.
For the second straight game, Lidge blew the save. This time, he just failed to pick up the loss along with it.
Lidge, who has been struggling as of late, gave up the tying run in the bottom of the ninth, after starting pitcher, Cole Hamels, threw a gem.
Hamels gave up 2 earned runs on 8 hits, over 6 innings. He ended up only throwing 109 pitches!
On the other side [...]

Phils Lose Heartbreaker To Yanks In Bottom of 9th

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Phillies started out fast again. This time with a Raul Ibanez home run in the 2nd inning. The Phillies have had their way with the Yankees new ballpark, but this time, the ending did not favor the Phillies.
The 1st inning featured no heroics this time around, with the Phils going one-two-three. The Yanks went quietly too.
The 2nd inning was when things started to get interesting. The Phils started things off with a Raul Ibanez league leading 17th home run of the year. That made the score 1-0. That was the only scoring for the Phils in the inning.

The Yankees [...]

Phils Win Interleague Opener At Yankee Stadium

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

It started with a Jimmy Rollins home run on the very first pitch. Then the home runs just kept on coming. In a game that featured 7 home runs, the game surely was lopsided.
The Phillies dominated from the start. In the first, Rollins got the Phils started with a first pitch home run. Later in the bottom of the inning, Alex Rodriguez hit a ball into left field. Johnny Damon was on first, and was turning 3rd base when the relay throw from Raul Ibanez went to Rollins. Rollins then proceeded to rifle the ball home in time to get [...]

Yanks Fan Talking Smack That His Team Cannot Back Up

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Coming into this Memorial Day Weekend series with the New York Yankees, which has been highly anticipated, there have been some trach talk going on between some Yanks and Phils fans.
The link will be at the bottom.
I can’t believe this guy said this, let alone post it on a Philadelphia fan site!
For starters, I wouldn’t say that the Yanks are fielding a better defensive team than us because they are not. The Phils only have 11 errors all year to lead the majors. Secondly, the Yanks have committed 20! That my friends is a difference of 9 errors between the [...]

Week In Review: Phils On A Roll!

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Phillies started the week with a win against the Nationals that capped a sweep of the Nats over the weekend.
They then had Monday off, so no action there.
After Monday, they yet again continued their extensive road trip all the way to Cincinnati. They then proceeded to win 2 out of 3 games in the series to continue their dominance on the road. Over the whole season, the Phils have gone 14-5 on the road, and in the last 10 games, they have went 7-3.
Let’s try to recap the Reds series. Game one pitted Phillies ace Cole Hamels against Johny [...]

First Game of the Double Header a Success

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The first game of the day and night double header against the Washington Nationals was a huge success for Brett Myers. Myers pitched well, only allowing two runs over 7 innings of work, and 5 hits overall. The hitters gave him good run support also scoring 8 runs in the game to back Myers.
The story of the game was Raul Ibanez. Ibanez hit two towering homeruns by the 3rd inning, and finished with 3 hits in a 3-5 effort. Ibanez ended up batting in four of the Phillies 8 runs.
Also, the bullpen continued to let up runs when Ryan Madson [...]

Phillies Pitching Woes Continue Throughout Staff

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The current slump shows it. The blown save last night proves it. Yes, the Philadelphia Phillies have some problems that no one expected them to have this year. Pitching has shown so far this season that it is the Phillies main weakness. The Phils have showed that they have elite defense, that they have elite hitting prowess, and most of all, they have proved that they have what it takes to win a championship.
Coming into the season, after the Phillies gave 2008 MLB World Series MVP Cole Hamels a huge contract, re-signed Jamie Moyer, and signed versatile Chan Ho Park, [...]
